We went to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie tonight. Our original plan to see it at the local big box multiplex was foiled when we arrived to find all of the showings before 10pm sold out. So we headed to our neighbourhood two-screen theatre, which we had never been to before. We figured the seats might not be as comfy, but there would definitely be tickets available.

Dan walked up to the cash and asked for two tickets. The register rang and showed $8.00.

“Actually, we wanted two tickets,” Dan explained.

“Yes, two tickets. $4 each,” explained the cashier, “It’s Tuesday, so it’s half off the regular $8 price.”

I couldn’t stop chuckling to myself all night. We’re so used to paying overpriced movie theatre prices that we couldn’t even fathom the idea that two tickets could possible cost less than $16, even on half-price Tuesday. (I didn’t even know anyone still did half-price Tuesday!)

We’ll definitely be seeing more movies at the local little theatre… Although perhaps not 2.5 hour epics like tonight’s film; After that much time the cheap seats definitely took their toll on my neck and legs.
