This seems like it might come in handy when I need to get to school tomorrow. Vancouver has gone crazy because there is a little snow on the ground.

Bus etiquette
The recent wintery weather here in Vancouver has prompted a multitude of snow-phobic drivers to take public transit instead. Now I’ll admit that Vancouver transit riders are not the most courteous at the best of times, but the last few days have been absolutely ridiculous. I swear there must be at least twice as many people on transit as usual, and half of them are just plain rude!
This blog post from Don’t Panic echoed my thoughts exactly:
“Buses crowded with people who act like it’s their first time on transit and A) don’t remove their backpacks- you are hitting other people with it, and taking up space that another person could cram into, and B) don’t move back automatically. Why does the driver have to tell us to move back at every stop? A space opened up, MOVE THE FUCK BACK.”

I’m addicted to the caramel chocolate pretzel sticks that Starbucks sells. This recipe seems like a good start for making my own.

A few cool apps I hadn’t heard of but now plan to check out – Particularly Connoisseur for recipes and DeskShade to hide my messy desktop.
Hello from the Great White North
It snowed! In Vancouver! The way people are acting you’d think it was the end of the world. Granted, the power in our apartment was out for most of the day today, and UBC and SFU were both closed, but we didn’t get that much snow. But it’s enough to make me homesick for Halifax, where I lived through both Hurricane Juan and a huge blizzard a couple years ago.
You may have noticed the daily links entry below. I’m making a concerted effort to use del.icio.us for all my bookmarking needs. And I’m posting each day’s links to my blog! That way you get a window on what I’m looking at as I surf the web, and I get to spend less time trying to hunt down “that really cool link I saw somewhere last week.”

R.I.P. John Allan Cameron
Celtic music icon John Allan Cameron dies at 67.
He was the godfather of Canadian celtic music. I was a bit of a celtic music nut in my teens and early 20′s (and still am, I guess). I used to see him play around Ontario when I was in high school, and I also have great memories of a middle-of-the night rendition of “Getting Dark Again” at the Celtic Colours after-hours festival club about six years ago.
