R.I.P. John Allan Cameron

Celtic music icon John Allan Cameron dies at 67.

He was the godfather of Canadian celtic music. I was a bit of a celtic music nut in my teens and early 20′s (and still am, I guess). I used to see him play around Ontario when I was in high school, and I also have great memories of a middle-of-the night rendition of “Getting Dark Again” at the Celtic Colours after-hours festival club about six years ago.

  1. Hi Karen – I am surfing thru the net looking at articles about my uncle and came across your posting. It’s nice you have fond memories of him. I think he helped create quite a few of us little celtic nuts! All the best to you – Tara (Beaton) Hreceniuk

  2. Hello, Karen,
John Allan Cameron’s untimely end left a huge hole in
not only the Celtic music industry, but in the hearts of
those who’ve known and loved him. Let’s all remember him the way he WAS before he’d gotten so ill, and died.
I,too, have fond memories of being to his perform-
ances and talking to him. His hugs always left me feeling
afterwards, like I was an old friend who’d come to say
    “hello”.
I’m a celtic music nut, too, and I also have my parents to thank for that, because they used to play his music for me on our old stereo when I was a baby.
Hopefully, your memories of the Godfather are every bit as fond as mine are.
