Downtown, things’ll be great when you’re downtown

When I last left this blog hanging oh so many months ago I was on the hunt for a new apartment. After changing our minds many times about budget, location, and size, we finally found an awesome one-bedroom place in Vancouver’s west end. It even has a view!
We’re moving at the end of this month and I cannot wait to leave the soul-sucking suburb that is North Burnaby. Whee!

In other good news, I’m back into triathlons again this summer after an extremely sedentary winter. Thank goodness my wetsuit still fits, even with all that “winter weight.” My goal for the summer is to do one tri a month. I did the North Shore Spring Triathlon in May, and I’ll be entering one in Guelph later this month. Watch for an updated race calendar in the sidebar sometime soon.

  1. When I moved to Burnaby from the West End I had HUGE culture shock. There were no 24h restaurants in Burnaby, and people don’t WALK much — they seem to DRIVE more, even to a place a short walk away.

However, once my kids were born, I discovered Burnaby to be a wonderful place. Great schools, parks, and peaceful suburbia (only a 20 minute drive to downtown).

I hope you enjoy the West End. You may find yourself back in Burnaby some day!!

  2. Actually, there is one 24 hour restaurant in Burnaby… almost. The Night and Day at the corner of Boundary & Lougheed. :) When I lived in Burnaby I stopped there once or twice on a late-night transit commute back from UBC.
