Only 13 years late…

At 29 I’ve finally decided to get my driver’s license. I live downtown and can walk or take transit most places so I don’t plan on buying a car anytime soon, but I’ll admit I sometimes wish I could take advantage of one of Vancouver’s Car Co-ops for a trip to Ikea. It would also be nice to be able to rent a car for a fun road trip. This sudden urge to learn to drive is also partially spurred by the fact that I got my learner’s 1.5 years ago, and it expires in another 6 months!

I’m signing up for driver’s ed. I’m going with Young Drivers, so unfortunately I’ll have to suffer through three weeks of classroom lessons with a bunch of 16-year-olds. Bleah. But YD is the only place that offers a large enough number of driving lessons (in a car they provide!) that I might conceivably pass my driver’s test without having my own car to practice on. They’ll even pay for me to take the test again if I fail it the first time.

And once I pass my test, it’s only two more years until I actually have my full license! Graduated licensing sucks.
