Won’t you be my personal stylist?

As a typical geek I am blessed with less than perfect eyesight, and over the years I’ve attempted to look more chic than geek (or perhaps geek chic?) by choosing funky eyeglasses. My all-time favourites were a pair of red cateye half-frames that finally bit the dust last year. I replaced them with a boring pair of frames from Costco that I liked at the time, but have since come to despise. As a result I end up wearing my contacts most days. But I miss having funky eyeglasses!

I’ve decided to try one of those online eyeglass places with rock bottom prices. I’ve read up on them all at GlassyEyes and have settled on Goggles4U since they offer a huge selection and the price is right ($25 a pair with free shipping!).

But alas, I am overwhelmed by the massive selection. This is where you, dear reader, come in. Help me solve my eyeglass fashion crisis! I have decided I’ll spring for two pair (at $25 a pop why not?) but I can’t decide which two pair.

I’ve narrowed it down to six:
19061: black and red with stripey temples
19064: square-ish red
19233: blue and teal half-frames
21633: blue with lattice-style temples
21709: black with red and white temples
21718: dainty black 3/4 frames

I was going to use PollDaddy for this little survey but they don’t allow HTML links in their polls. Boo! So we’re doing this the old-fashioned way: Leave your votes in the comments.

  1. Not sure if you were motivated by me ordering my glasses, but I just ordered from the same place a couple days ago. I only ordered one pair because I want to make sure they’re alright before I go crazy. Mine run closer to $40/pr because of my strong prescription. I also figured I could get pair #2 with their 15# discount for repeat customers. I will let you know how mine are when they arrive! Not sure which ones you should get – I will have time to look later. :-)

  2. I think the blue and lattice style will suit you best… i found a cool website the other day that is like an online personal stylist service that tells you your colours and advises as to types of glasses suitable for your face shape.. is weirdly accurate with the advice too! Check it out http://www.iStylista.com

  3. I like the squareish red and the black with red. I just checked on my order and they’re already “awaiting shipment” – and I only ordered them on Tuesday.

Be forewarned that because of the time change, you won’t receive immediate replies. Not sure what the difference is between Van city and them, but all the emails they send me are marked around 2-4am my time.

  4. I think all your selections are good. For your face and hair, I think the ones with cool perforated side designs are the neatest. In order, I like:

    21633: blue with lattice-style temples

    21718: dainty black 3/4 frames

I I were getting new glasses for ME, I’d go for the all blue ones:

    19233: blue and teal half-frames

Although I chose something rather different recently:

  5. I like squarish red and the dainty black.
I don’t understand how you order glasses over the internet? How do they fit them for your focal points?
If they are any good, let me know.

I’m in the process of switching to daily contact wear. :) Air

  6. Jenn, I saw your Twitter message about ordering glasses online, which spurred me to look into it again. I’ll keep the discount thing in mind! Maybe I will only order one pair at first.

Air, apparently the focal point thing can be figured out with a magic number called Pupillary Distance (PD). Supposedly some optometrists won’t give this number out to their patients, but mine had no problem doing so over the phone yesterday.

I am leaning towards the black and red frames for my first order now, second will probably be those dainty black ones, or the blue ones with the sorta lattice-like temples.
